Architect Colleges: Programs, Training, And Institutions
|

|
Architect colleges are the entry points for aspiring high school students and even adults who want to change career path. Aside from the traditional means of getting degrees through regular or top architecture colleges and universities, an alternative would be online degrees.
No matter how you choose to meet the educational requirements of this profession, below is the basic knowledge you need in pursuing your career in architecture.
Programs and training
Depending on the architect colleges that you will be attending in the future, the degree can be classified into the four following categories:
1. Pre-professional degree
These online architecture degrees take four years to complete and do not lead to professional training since these architecture programs cannot be accredited. Degrees focusing on architectural history and environmental design belong to this category, as with BS in Architecture, BS in Architectural Studies, BA in Architecture, and Bachelor of Architectural Studies, among others.
2. Professional degree
Since this type is an accredited degree, the undergraduate and graduate degrees (Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture) require you to be a licensed practitioner. The Bachelor of Architecture requires at least five years to complete, while the Master of Architecture may take one to five years, depending on the student's previous education at any accredited architect colleges.
3. Post-professional degree
Referring to a graduate degree obtained via any architecture graduate schools, it deals with highly specialized fields of study like interior design, preservation, and design theory, among others. This could refer to a master's degree or a doctorate.
4. Non-professional graduate degree
Varying in duration and focus, these architecture classes are for non-professional degree holders who want to explore this specific area of study. Most online classes for architecture are focused on this program, given that time may be an issue for those who are interested.
Institutions
Architect colleges continue to be a promising trade. In the US and Canada alone, 125 schools are offering professional architecture degree programs. This number does not include online architecture degree programs.
A quick online search can reveal the top architecture schools and colleges in the US, which is a leading destination for international students who want to get into the top architecture colleges. This list is based on the 2010 America's Best Architect Colleges from Architectural Record. High school graduate, take note:
